In "Beyond the Stump," where did Gretel and Sarah live after they moved off the boat?

After Gretel and Sarah moved off the boat, they lived in hostels and Bed and Breakfasts or people's sofas that they were renting for a small amount. They never stayed long, because they could not afford it. This lasted for a months.... after which, they moved into the stable.
