In "Beyond the Stump," what is happening to Sarah's memories?

Sarah's memories flash and then disappear. She forgets where she left her shoes whey the are on her feet. She looks at Gretel several times a day, and she asks who she is or tells her to leave. She forgets her name or where the bathroom is. She leaves things in odd places.
