Who is Carole?

Carole is a character in the story “Sunrise, Sunset.” She is a Haitian immigrant living in Miami, and she is the mother of Jeanne. Family is extremely important to Carole, and she is sad when it appears that Jeanne has no interest in her own newborn son. Carole is suffering form the early stages of dementia, and she almost endangers Jude when she picks him up during a dementia-related episode. Jeanne is sad that Carole will likely have to be put in an assisted-living facility at some point, as her dementia will likely worsen.
