Who is The Maître d’?

The maître d’ is the murderer in “Lunch at the Gotham Café.” Steven tells his reader that he knows something is wrong with the maître d’ when he first sees him because he is unkempt and is muttering about a dog. The maître d’ later pulls a knife on Diane’s lawyer and kills him. He stabs the chef before turning his attention to Steven. Steven is able to escape and get Diane to safety.
