Importance of Darlene Pullen

Darlene Pullen is the central character in “Luckey Quarter.” Darlene receives a “luckey quarter” (449) from one of the guests who stays at the motel where she works as a maid. She has a dream in which she imagines winning the lottery for $24,000 with this quarter. This amount of money will allow her to take care of her children and get caught up on her bills. Instead of being pleased by this dream and her feeling that it will come true, Darlene only feels more depressed because she knows that no amount of money will buy her happiness.
