This novel is told through the eyes and narrative voice of Ada. Ada is a young first-generation Nigerian girl living in America with her father. The novel is written through Ada’s experience and therefore illustrates her emotional, spiritual, and intellectual internal life and landscape as she grows up through childhood to eventually become a young woman with increased independence and self-determination.
