How does the author use foreshadowing in Evermore: The Immortals?

The reader is teased with several instances of foreshadowing because of Ever's thoughts. For example, from early in the story it's evident that Ever believes the accident that killed her parents and little sister is her fault. She's so convinced of this that she presents the idea as fact. The reader doesn't learn until very late in the book that Ever's guilt stems from the fact that she'd asked her father to turn around in order to retrieve a favorite sweatshirt she'd left behind. Ever believes that if she hadn't caused them to turn around, the family would have continued their journey without encountering the deer and without having a wreck.
