Reproductive labor is all the work needed to sustain a productive workforce for generations. It involves caring for children, adults, and the elderly; household chores; and keeping household members emotionally and physically healthy. Reproductive labor can be performed by mothers, other family members, or hired workers. What ties all the work that makes up reproductive labor together is that the work is either unpaid or low-wage.
