Then she said, “I am still rich, Isabel. We will only be here until Abuelita is well enough to travel. Then she will come with her money and we will buy a big house. A house that Papa would have been proud for us to live in. Maybe we will buy two houses so that Hortensia, Alfonso and Miguel can live in one and work for us again. And you can visit us, Isabel. You see, this is only temporary. We will not be here for long.”
Esperanza's hopes lie in being reunited with her grandmother and recovering her family's fortune. We can infer that he uncles have taken over most of the family fortune, but Esperanza continues to have hopes for the future. Isabel doubts Espernza's words responding, “De veras?” asked Isabel. (pg 105). After which, Esperanza responds, “Yes, it is the truth...” before closing her eyes and hearing "Isabel tiptoe out of the room and shut the door."
In context, we can see that Isabel doesn't believe Esperanza, but that she has enough sympathy and compassion not to say anything more.
