Shackleton's ship was named Endurance, an apt if not propitious name for the vessel that would be caught in the Antartic ice pack, crushed, and sunk--leaving Shackleton and his 20+ crew stranded for what would turn out to be a two year struggle to survive. That all did survive is a tribute both to his leadership and the crew's endurance.
