One major theme in the novel,The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, is the will to survive. This theme is illustrated through the actions of the captives, as they contemplate and insure their survival at the hands of their captives. Rather than giving in, Pollifax, Howell, and Farrell work together to plan and initiate their escape.
