Another theme to consider is religious beliefs. Ms. Eadie was the daughter of an Indian woman and a white man. Indians do not traditionally believe in organized religion or in the Christian God. However, Ms. Eadie was sent to a Catholic boarding school as a child. In this school, Ms. Eadie was taught to fear God and that God and Jesus are one in the same. These teachings confused Ms. Eadie as she grew older and had experiences with other religions that taught opposite beliefs. Like a lot of people, Ms. Eadie wanted to believe in God and confessed that she often prayed to God in a demanding, threatening sort of way. However, she never found a religion she could feel comfortable in.
