Why is Eleanor living with the Hickmans?

Eleanor went to stay with the the Hickmans when Richie kicked her out. They are friends of Eleanor's mother and agreed to let Eleanor stay because everyone thought Richie would cool off in a week or so and allow Eleanor to return. They have children of their own and Eleanor slept on the couch in the living room.
