What methods does the audiologist use to test Cece's hearing?

The audiologist uses several different methods in order to test Cece's hearing. After ringing a bell next to a blindfolded Cece, he then puts headphones on her head and leads her into a booth. She hears beeps and says, "It's the first sound I've heard since the hospital" (16). The doctor then tells Cece to raise her hand when she hears the beeps, a fact that she surmises from his actions, rather than from hearing his words.
