How does Frank Herbert use imagery in Dune?

Herbert uses descriptive imagery to describe the Fremen. They are described as sinewy and tanned, signs of health and strength. They aren't overly muscled like fighters, but rather, in a way that suggests their main concern is not strength.... but survival.
