Dunbar is the once-powerful head of a global media corporation and the central protagonist of the novel. He is the modern-day equivalent of King Lear. He is in his eighties but physically fit and commanding. Canadian-born, he is assertive and goal-oriented. Dunbar is used to having his way but that all changes when he makes the mistake of handing over his company to his scheming older daughters, Abigail and Megan, who betray him and stick him in a nursing home.
