Ecstasy of fumbling is one example. ...and ............desperate glory

The first....this explains the feeling of the half dead soldier that is still able to put one foot in front of the other and is just thankful to be able to do so.

The second.....glory is not generally desperate. It is used here to indicate a child's innocent embrace of the romantic idea of war....and to desire it.
