Knapp had her first drink at the age of twelve or thirteen. From there, she just began experimenting as other young teenagers do. But through the experimenting, Knapp had begun to form a connection between liquor and anxiety and sadness. Liquor seemed to ease both. Knapp says that she learned this behavior from her family.
