Who is Tanis from Dragons of Spring Dawning and what is their importance?

Tanis is half-elf and half-human. He has elfin features, which he hides behind a human beard. This allows him to move around in human cities easily. Tanis is described as thin and agile, traits that are ideal for battles. As the leader of the group of friends, Tanis works with the others to stop the Dark Queen and her armies from taking over their world. The group of friends consists of Raistlin, Caramon, Riverwind, Goldmoon, Tika, Tas and Flint. The members of the group both trust and respect Tanis, following him to their potential deaths.
