Andemon is a Masterfarmer, who for years spent his time exterminating grubs, rather than allowing them to naturally aerate the soil. Over the course of the novel, Andemon learns that the grubs he so meticulously rid from the soil were actually a natural protection from the Threads, leading him to change his methods.
