What is the importance of the American military in the book, Doxology?

The American militarism illustrated throughout the novel is a symbol of the American value system of freedom. the militaristic attitude of America saturates the political sphere for the majority of the novel and is a tool used to express the various means that politicians and patriots are willing to use to express their political opinions in defense of American freedom.
