Who is Trina from Down These Mean Streets and what is their importance?

Trina (Trinedad) was Piri's girlfriend, and the cousin of one of his good friends. She's a mean drunk, but she loves Piri and forgives him anything. When Piri is sent to prison, Trina stands by him. She does, however, meet anther man and marries while Piri is still in jail.
