What does Tennis Racquet represent?

The tennis racquet initially serves as a symbol of April’s old life. Her grandmother tries to give it back to her when she returns to Virginia but April is hesitant. Her grandmother puts it in the car anyway and April then uses the racquet to kill Mike Vamp. In killing Mike Vamp with the racquet April is taking control and atoning for the mistakes she made by clinging to her old life.
