What happens to Zach’s action figures in Chapter Two of the novel, Doll Bones?

When Zach returns from school and looks for his action figures in the duffel bag in his closet, they are gone. When he confronts his mother, she believes they are misplaced. Zach looks everywhere, but his father soon admits that he threw them out in the garbage.
