Matt, Pig-Pen in the comic strip, is CB's sex-obsessed, homophobic best friend who is secretly in love with CB. He is angry when CB kisses Beethoven at Marcy's party and vows that he will make Beethoven pay. When Beethoven refuses to leave CB alone, Matt slams his fingers in the piano lid, causing Beethoven to commit suicide since he can no longer play the piano. Matt is punished by being suspended from school for one week.
