Eulalie can be seen as impatient in her desire to fit in. She wants immediate acceptance, and when she doesn't get it, she begins to ponder whether or not she has made a mistake. She also decides that maybe they should start a family, even though they had decided it would be best to wait.
Ato is also impatient for his wife to fit it. Once home, he immediately begins to embrace the traditions he was brought up with, and though he defends his wife, he is unwilling to go the distance. In terms of children, though his wife thought they might want to start a family, Ato isn't interested as yet, but he doesn't tell his family, and he allows them to blame Eulalie for their lack of conception. He even allows the women of his family to perform certain traditional rites. Rather than truly supporting Ato, he expects her to conform.
