The color red is symbolic for passion and sex. Throughout the novel, red is a recurring symbol that appears on women such in Teresa’s hair color in “In the Event of My Father’s Death” and Rebekah’s conspicuous lipstick in “Bad Priest”. Both these women engage in inappropriate sexual relations with men and are praised for their seductive appeal.
