Significance of Leather jacket

A leather jacket worn by Frank as a youth is discovered in the closet by Greg when he looks for ways to improve his wardrobe. Franke happily tells Greg he can wear the jacket, but Greg’s mom tells him no. She believes it gives the wrong impression. Greg decides to wear the jacket anyways, leading to his mom coming to school and interrupting class to get the jacket back.
