Why do the men make jokes about the dead man?

Humor helps them to release the pressure and awfulness of the job they have to do. They do not lack compassion, but need to lighten the atmosphere by making jokes. At a deeper level, people find humor in death out of the stark reminder that this will happen to all of us.
