The toad, which lives in the layers of sediment, is drawn to a rain-filled pothole There it mates and fill the pool with tadpoles, which mature into toads. As the water dries up, the young toads dig into the ground like their parents did, and burrow in a sealed hole, waiting for the next rain. If it does not rain soon enough, they dry up and become dust.
