Pride. Willy won't work for Charley because it would be admitting ( at least in Willy's mind) that Charley is more sucessful and a better person than he is. He has no problem taking Charley's money (he's so used to Charley coming to the rescue that its a habit), and there's also the fact that Willy's grasp on reality is falling apart by this time.
