Dead Poets Society

From the opening sequence, the scene shifts to the inside of the dorm, and the banter between the boys in Neil and Todd's room. Why do you think the director decided to use this scene directly after the formal ceremony?

I think the director Peter Wier wanted to show that beneath the pomp and ceremony of this elite private school, these boys are still teenagers who act as adolescent boys do.
