In the novel, Dawn, the "dawn" refers to Elisha’s assignment as a freedom fighter (aka terrorist). His assignment involves executing a British officer at dawn. The execution itself is a reprisal for the hanging of a fellow Jewish freedom fighter by the British at the same hour of a new day. The dawn serves as a metaphor for new beginnings.... new days, as night is ever constant in the life of the main character, Elisha.
