Mr. Boring is David's father. He is an elusive character in the novel because David doesn't know much about him. Mr. Boring writes comic strips, specifically one called the Yellow Streak. Since Mr. Boring had left when David was a baby, David has only been able to save a few of his father's comics from destruction by his mother. Later in the novel, Mrs. Boring admits that Mr. Boring is dead. David is able to confirm his father's death when he returns from Hulligan's Wharf to the mainland.
