Who is Mon Mothma from Dark Force Rising and what is their importance?

Mon Mothma is one of three founders of the rebellion. After Alderan was obliverated, Mon Mothma became the leader. Han Solo doesn't think that Mon Mothma is a fit leader, and he is particularly upset that she seems to be pushing a very pregnant Princess Leia to work too much.
