What are the motifs in Dark Flame by Alyson Noel?

Trust is a recurring idea in the story. Ever has made a great many mistakes since becoming immortal and has begun to lose her ability to trust those around her. Ever convinces herself that Jude is a member of roman's rogue group of immortals when she sees a tattoo on his back, but later discovers he is not immortal. For this reason, Ever forces herself to trust Jude, trusting him too much and exposing the truth of immortality to him. This leads to Jude killing Roman in the mistaken thought that he is trying to hurt her.
