Who is Iranon from Dagon and Other Macabre Tales and what is their importance?

Iranon's character appears in The Quest of Iranon. He is described as a golden-haired youth, who never ages and spends his time traveling from town to town-singing songs about his lost homeland Aira. Iranon claims he is the prince of Aira and dies soon after learning that Aira was just a figment of his imagination.
