Who is Hallie from Crossing to Safety and what is their importance?

Sid and Charity's daughter, Hallie, was born after most of the flashbacks concerning the early years of their friendship. Her character is introduced when Charity is dying. Hallie resents her mother's controlling behavior, but she gains an appreciation for her through Sally's stories.
