What metaphors are used in Crazy Lady! by Jane Leslie Conly?

In Chapter One, Vernon's uses the seed metaphor as a symbol of his bad dreams..... dreams about the events from two years previous. The metaphor itself, also foreshadows some of the chores that Miss Annie gets Vernon to perform for her.
