How does the author use foreshadowing in Crazy Lady!?

In Chapter Four, the main conflict of the novel is introduced when Vernon receives his bad report card. At the end of chapter, moreover, the author uses foreshadowing to hint that something unusual will happen to aid Vernon in his studies.
