Describe the friendship between the narrator and Mike Deluca.

John and Mike's relationship is built upon commonalities more than anything else. Both boys enjoy football, they're both originally from Pennsylvania, and they both enjoy eating.

None-the-less, they're also very different. They have a sense of competitiveness between them that hovers just below the friendship.... Mike is a bully, he's mean spirited, whereas, John is more of a practical joker. John is the superior athlete, and he refuses to let Mike forget it. In the end, John cannot condone Mike's cruelty, particularly to Penn, and theit friendship ends.
