Moore writes Coyote Blue primarily in dialogue, but the amount of exposition is not far behind. This style keeps the reader focused on the relationships between the characters, which is a large part of the novel, even in terms of how these relationships affect the characters' development. The events of the novel are usually seen through Sam's eyes, with detours into the viewpoints of Calliope, Lonnie, Pokey and M. F. Coyote is always viewed by other characters; his thoughts and feelings are kept secret. The legends about Old Man Coyote gives the best example of the way that he views things.
