Diane Bartholomew was imprisoned in 1990, after a homocide conviction. She was born in Waterbury, and the mother of three girls. During her twenty-four year marriage, Diane was emotionally and sexually abused by her husband. Eventually, she experienced a psychotic break, during which, she shot and killed him.

Diane was diagnosed with breast cancer in prison, during which time, she attended counseling and self-help groups. After earning her associate's degree, she went on to pursue a bachelor's degree in social work, hoping to become a counselor for victims of domestic abuse. Diane died from cancer only a few months after her release from prison.
