What is the author's tone in Cosmic Trigger I: Final Secret of the Illuminati by Robert A. Wilson?

On the one hand, Wilson tries to maintain a scientific tone to his investigations into drugs and supernatural phenomenon. On the other hand, the book also has the tone of a recruitment document for the theories of Aleister Crowley. While Wilson and Leary have their own independent theories on UFOs and extraterrestrial beings, much of their beliefs are based on Aleister Crowley. Wilson makes a clear effort to apologize to the critics of mind-altering drug use.
