At the height of the fun, a gunshot went off, killing the chief. The killing and mayhem ensued from the that point, with women and children killed, people running into the fire, screaming, and more violence. Amari is shocked to see an Ashanti warrior to be at the root of some of the deaths. Amari's parents are then brutally murdered (her father is stabbed; her mother's head is crushed against a rock). Finally, Kwasi is speared as he and Amari attempt to escape. As Amari is captured and placed with the other survivors, she notices that the living express no emotion, as they are in such terrible shock.
