Who is Philippe de Marsillac/The Prince from Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and what is their importance?

Philippe de Marsillas is an artist, who befriends Iris, and with whom, he shares mant interests. Over the course of the novel, we see Philippe marry Clara. The couple goes onto have two children. Philippe dies at a young age, leaving Iris a widow.
