Who is Reuben Starkadder from Cold Comfort Farm and what is their importance?

Reuben Starkadder is Judith and Amos' oldest son. Reuben's heart is in farming, and he wishes for nothing more than to take the farm over when his father is ready to retire. Over the course of the novel, Flora and Reuben convince Amos to take his preaching on the road, so that Reuben can prove himself worthy. Amos enjoys the tour so much that he soon writes, telling Reuben the farm is his. Reuben, in turn, proposes to Flora who refuses, but not without suggesting a more suitable wife.
