Mr. Darling is the owner of Java Heaven, a rival coffeehouse that is right next door to Anna's Old World Scandinavian Coffeehouse. Mr. Darling wants to get rid of Anna's and expand his own business, so he offers to buy Anna out. When Anna finally breaks and agrees to this deal, Mr. Darling rescinds his offer and tells Katrina that he plans to buy the building and kick them out when they cannot pay their rent. Later Katrina finds a receipt that proves that the organic coffee Mr. Darling claims to sell at his coffeehouse is really a cheap generic. Katrina does nothing with this receipt, but it is later found by a reporter who uses it to ruin Mr. Darling. Amid accusations of fraud, Mr. Darling leaves town.
