Katrina sees a homeless guy sleeping in the alley behind her grandmother's coffeehouse and is frightened because this sort of thing does not often happen in the small community where they live. At first, all Katrina can think of is the dangers this man might represent and how she should stay away from him, but then she feels bad for him and decides to give him some food. It turns out that this homeless man is a messenger from God whom Katrina should not have been able to see. Since Katrina could see him, the man becomes curious about her and decides to grant her a wish in order to give him an excuse to see her again.
