Who is Wagga McBride from Cloudstreet and what is their importance?

Wagga is one of Quick's classmates at school. One day Quick notices that Wagga and his brother don't have anything to eat for lunch, although, they do their best to hide it. Quick shares his own food because they are hungry. Wagga is killed by a train while playing on the railroad tracks with his brother.
